Untangling Whiteness
In a country still divided by racial conflict, polarization, and xenophobia, the need for lasting change is undeniable. Our schools, community organizations, and government programs are stretched thin, while a rising wave of white nationalism threatens to undo generations of progress towards racial justice.
The Black Lives Matter movement pushed our nation to confront both historical and present-day anti-Black racism– exposing unjust systems and urging institutions to examine their policies, practices, and culture. Yet in this time of reckoning, many white-bodied people have been called out (and called in), but often don’t know how to respond– or respond in ways that cause more harm.
The collision of ego and the deep-seated shame carried in white bodies has fueled paralysis, defensiveness, anger, and collapse. Fear of saying or doing the wrong thing has become a pandemic in white communities, shutting down dialogue, stalling growth, and blocking the real progress we urgently need.
But what we also know is this: culture is learned. Behaviors and adaptations are taught and practiced over time. And because of this, change is possible. We are malleable beings with the ability to unlearn harmful patterns, to love ourselves into transformation, and to create new ways of being that can alter the course of our shared future.
Come to this 2 hour workshop to engage with the ways whiteness has shaped us, to connect with others and to get to know the facilitator of “Dissecting Whiteness; a path to wholeness” and learn about the longer workshop series of transformation and healing.
